The Operations Manager is responsible for managing the operations activities at Re:Source. They will oversee all matters related to operations, including effective safety and accident prevention programs; lead all operations to ensure compliance with standards; and drive change-management initiatives to introduce and sustain new processes that contribute to the growth and durability of operations.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Operation Management
- Maintain operational efficiencies by updating equipment, procedures, networking with industry associates, and training and scheduling to keep current with new industry trends and technology.
- Operate the facility in a manner that maximizes recovery of recyclable materials from mixed solid waste in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
- Supervise Re:Source employees that include, operational supervisors, sorters, equipment operators, and scale house attendants, trucking and medical waste drivers, and maintenance personnel.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all operations and coordinate efforts with COO.
- Establish and monitor productions standards to measure and track operational efficiency.
- Work with HR Manager in hiring employees, including reference and background checks and interviewing.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations and recommens performance-based wage increases within the scope of the established pay scale to COO.
- Conduct coaching sessions with employees and perform disciplinary action as needed. Communicate employee concerns with COO.
- Ensure maximum productivity and establish productivity goals where needed; ensure adherence to operating standards; and manage labor hours and disposal expenses.
- Develop a best-in-class team and workplace culture and effectively manage performance and talent development.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with customers, markets, and the public and governmental agencies.
- Coordinate the shipping/receiving of materials and ensure that incoming materials and market specifications are met.
- Maintain accurate transfer payloads.
- Maintain open communication with contracted and 3rd party transfer companies.
Reporting
- Oversee inbound and outbound reports are completed.
- Review workload and schedule employees to cover all operations, vacation and sick leave relief, and after-hours and weekend work when necessary.
- Assist COO and CFO in development of annual reports, budgets and other programs.
Compliance & Audit
- Implement, oversee and maintain safety and training programs to meet all Company and regulatory requirements.
- Must ensure the facility meets or exceeds all safety requirements. Responsible for holding monthly safety committee meeting and compliance with all OSHA/DEQ programs and safety requirements.
- Administer equipment training programs and maintain equipment certifications.
- Manage staff, including hiring, training, coaching, performance management; develop supervisory goals and objectives; and effective resolution of safety issues and claims.
- Oversee effective safety and accident prevention programs to ensure all reasonable actions are taken to prevent accidents and injuries; ensure a safe and productive work environment for all employees; implement and maintain an effective loss-control and safety program.
- Manage facility operations in strict compliance with all contracts, agreements and local state and federal regulatory and permit requirements.
Support & Leadership
- Provide direction and act as a resource to accounting and general administrative staff to ensure complete, accurate, and timely work.
- Respond to information requests from the CFO and COO, providing financial insights and support as needed.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.
Working Conditions/Environment
- Occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions.

- Minimum three years experience in solid waste industry and/or operations experience.
- Minimum of three years experience managing staff of over thirty.
- Knowledge of processing solid waste and recycling markets.
- Knowledge of equipment used in processing solid waste.
- Knowledge of budget development and monitoring.
- Ability to effectively manage employees and maintain positive working relationships with customers, markets, and governmental agencies.
- Ability to develop and maintain administrative, operating and other management procedures to guide the operation of the facility.
