The Scale Attendant is responsible for accurately weighing incoming and outgoing materials, inputting inbound and outbound scale tickets, maintaining detailed transaction records, and delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate billing, efficient site operations, and compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and operational procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Determine the content of materials entering the facility to ensure accurate classification and customer billing
  • Inspect incoming loads and accept or reject materials based on established guidelines; recommend alternative solutions for special or non-conforming waste in accordance with local regulations and training
  • Balance daily receipts and transactions to maintain accurate records and proper billing procedures
  • Weigh and document all incoming materials using truck scales and computerized systems; maintain accurate tracking of total waste volumes
  • Coordinate with operations regarding special waste or unique loads; direct traffic as needed and complete all required documentation for proper processing
  • Answer incoming calls and provide general information to customers and drivers in a professional manner
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment within the scale house and surrounding area

Safety:           

  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements at all times
  • Use proper communication methods (radio, signals, signage) to direct traffic safely within the facility
  • Identify and report potential safety hazards, unsafe conditions, or incidents promptly
  • Maintain awareness of heavy equipment and vehicle movement in and around the scale area
  • Participate in required safety training and meetings
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) as applicable

Working Conditions/Environment:

  • Occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience in scale house, waste management, logistics, or customer service role
  • Basic knowledge of waste types, including special or hazardous materials, is a plus
  • Experience with computerized scale systems or data entry, including excel and word
  • Ability to perform basic math and reconcile transactions accuraterly
